Alicia Keys is devoted to one day stamping out HIV/AIDS.  She raises money for research and treatment, and has long worked to get the word out about how HIV/AIDS affects people around the globe.  Now, Alicia is lending her support to a new campaign from the non-profit group Greater Than AIDS.

"I've done a lot of work with international AIDS issues," Alicia says in a special video for Greater Than AIDS' "empowered" campaign.  But instead of only focusing on what's happening outside of the U.S., Alicia says that she's also concerned about making a difference closer to home.  In 2001, Alicia says she was introduced to a group of women living with HIV/AIDS in the U.S.  "There were these incredible women all in one room, and they were sharing their stories, you know.  And they were living right here in America, and were just like me," she says.

"I realized right there, like, 'Wow. There's a whole thing going on in America that I need to turn my attention to as well..." Alicia explains.  In the Greater Than AIDS clip, Alicia speaks with five women -- each from different walks of life -- who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.

More than one million people are living with AIDS in the U.S., and one in four of them are women, according to Greater Than AIDS.  To combat those statistics, Alicia has joined the organization in encouraging everyone to educate themselves about HIV/AIDS, share what they learn, protect themselves, get tested and get treated.

She's asking people to share her "empowered" video, and check out the Greater Than AIDS "empowered" campaign online.
